The impact of the civil war in Sri Lanka were tension among communities, huge loss of lives and cultural, economic and social setback.The majoritarian approach adopted by the leaders of the Sinhala community in Sri Lanka has led to widespread dissatisfaction amongst the Tamils. As a result, they organised themselves and protested against the kind of treatment they were receiving at the hands of the government. The growing tensions between the communities eventually exploded into a civil war. As a result, thousands of innocent people, including women and children, were killed. In addition, the country suffered a tremendous economic and cultural loss as it earned much of its income from tourism.
