    Solution:

    The brakes applied to a train moving at 90 km/h produces a retardation of 5 m/s. It will cover a distance of 62.5 m before coming to rest.
    Initial speed u=90 km/h
                           =90×518 m/s                          =25 m/s
    Final speed, =0 -5 m/s2.
    Let the distance covered before coming to rest be s.
    Using, Newton's equation of motion,
    v2=u2+2as 0=25×25-2×5×s
    0=625-10 ×s
    10×s=625 m
    s=62.5 m
