Pollution-Free Diwali: Diwali is a festival of light of hope and victory of truth over evil. It is the most important festival in India, celebrated by people of all religions. But for the past few decades, it has become a festival of unnecessary noise and smoke, spreading pollution. Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, people needed to change their mindset of the people regarding celebrating Diwali.
The Supreme Court of India has banned selling and burning firecrackers in Delhi and NCR. Seeing the deteriorating condition of the atmosphere of Delhi, it had become a necessary step. In recent years, Delhi and nearby places have shown a very disappointing air quality index. This is what made the judiciary take this decision.
The burning of firecrackers creates noise pollution and damages the hearing capability of our ears. Its greatest impact falls on children and infants. Also, the smoke from firecrackers remains in the atmosphere for a long time and damages our lungs. It also affects the lifespan of birds and animals. Even many of their species have become extinct.
Apart from Diwali, burning firecrackers should also be banned in Marriages, New Year celebrations, and other such occasions. Burning firecrackers on any occasion harm all of us and our mother earth.
