Teacher’s Day 2022 – Information, Date, Celebrations, Quotes

Teacher’s Day in India: 5th September

A good teacher has greater influence in shaping an individual’s life, even more than his/her parents. In our country’s culture, a teacher has been given a place above the almighty god. A good teacher’s proper guidance and support are very important in achieving one’s goal in life. Every successful individual remembers the constructive role played by his/her teacher in their school-college days.

A teacher’s job is sometimes a thankless job; a teacher works most honestly while performing his/her duties towards shaping students’ careers; also, apart from academics, other personal or extra-curricular activities of students are taken care of by him.

    Teachers Day 2019

The Teacher’s Day in 2019 will be celebrated on 5th September 2019, falling on Thursday of the week.

What is Special on Teachers’ Day 2019

India is celebrating its teacher’s day on Thursday, 5th September 2019, to commemorate the birth anniversary of its second President and a remarkable teacher – Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

It is celebrated with much enthusiasm by students throughout the nation. Children have already started preparing presentations, gifts, and speeches for their teachers to show their love and respect for the latter.

Students are eagerly waiting to celebrate the day along with their teachers. They are rehearsing for the events they have planned and also busy arranging gifts for their teachers.

News is coming from the central state of Madhya Pradesh that Teachers Day will be celebrated on 6th September instead of 5th September for the first time in history. This means that the award ceremony for teachers will be held on 6th September. The date is postponed by the state education Minister Dr. Prabhu Ram Chaudhary, who is on a trip to South Korea to study its education system and will be back only on 6th September.

Google has made a doodle on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. It shows an octopus as a teacher, teaching fish underwater. In the doodle, the octopus is shown writing on the class board from one hand and collecting sheets from the fishes from another. Google has tried to send a message through the doodle. The message is probably that the teachers are multitaskers and have to address too many issues simultaneously. You can see the doodle yourself by visiting google.com.

Meanwhile, the children were seen headed for school in the morning, dressed in colourful clothes and flowers in hand, to give to their favourite teachers.

The State Government of Uttar Pradesh conferred 49 basic education teachers of the Basic Education Council with the “State Education Award.” The awards on the eve of Teachers Day by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at a function in state capital Lucknow.

The Bihar state government has also nominated 20 government school teachers to confer them with awards on Teachers Day.

    Origin of Teacher’s Day Celebration

The day has been celebrated as Teachers’ Day since 1962 in respect of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, born on 5th September 1888. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a great scholar, philosopher, and teacher of modern India and was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1954.

He became the first Vice President of India (from 1952 to 1962) and the second President of India (from 1962 to 1967). His wish was that instead of celebrating his birthday on the 5th of September every year, it would be better to celebrate it as Teachers’ Day all over India. Therefore, it was the only natural way that his birthday would be celebrated as teacher’s day to pay respect to many unknown teachers across the country.

India’s teacher’s day is different from World Teacher Day, which is celebrated on the 5th of October every year in the whole world.

    Mode of Celebration:

On this day, the students of Schools and Colleges arrange and perform various cultural programs and activities as a token of love and respect towards their teachers. Outstanding teachers are also given prizes for their contribution to the development of schools and for bringing good results to students.

Students also give personal gifts to their favourite teachers to express their affection and gratitude. A life-long bond is developed between teachers and students. Teachers also feel special as their hard work and honesty are recognized today.

The role of teachers in the making of a nation is most significant; therefore, we must pay our utmost respect and gratitude to them and celebrate the 5th of September as a day of special teacher-student bonding.

    Importance of Teacher’s Day

Teacher’s Day is as important as the Teacher are important in our life. It is the day when the whole nation salutes the Teachers from every part of the nation for their contribution to making educated, civilized, responsible, and dutiful citizens. Teachers work every day for the welfare of the nation but Teacher’s Day is the only day on which we can Thank our Teachers for making us successful and giving us the wisdom of differentiating between right and wrong, good and bad, and teaching us to do hard work and live in the discipline.

    Importance of Teacher’s Day Celebration

Celebration is a mark of expressing your enthusiasm for the event. Teacher’s Day celebration is equally important as, without it, the joy of Teacher’s Day will be faded. The social and cultural events organized on this day make people across the country aware of their national heritage. Teachers are the most important members of society, so they must be given the highest respect and priority. That is why everyone should participate in the Teacher’s Day celebration and express their love and respect for their teacher through speeches or songs.

The controversy around PM Modi’s Teachers’ Day Speech on 5 September 2014

Though the children of India have been celebrating Teacher’s Day as a day when they express their love and respect for their teachers and, in turn, teachers also show their affection for their pupils, this year’s Teachers’ Day on the 5th of September 2014 is in the news for a reason other than a simple student-teacher event.

As per the directives of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry, all government and private schools across the country were asked by the Government to ensure and arrange for PM Narendra Modi’s live televised Teachers’ Day speech and interaction with school children at the Manekshaw Auditorium in Delhi.

The said directive also stated that schools would have to arrange for televisions, cable connections, projectors, etc. so that students can also see the question-and-answer session, which will be telecast live on Doordarshan between 3 pm to 4.45 pm.

    Controversial Directive:

But the directive is being criticized by some schools and opposition parties on the ground that the school children cannot compulsorily be forced to remain in school till 5 pm to watch PM’s speech. Opposition parties are suggesting that speech timing should be changed to suit school hours so that small school children will not have to remain in school till evening.

Furthermore, another problem which is being faced by school authorities is that at such short notice, they are finding it difficult to arrange technical instruments needed for the live telecast of the Speech as all schools in the country are not well equipped with modern telecommunication instruments and infrastructure.

One more significant question is whether school children can be asked to watch and listen to PM’s speech compulsorily. Though the PM of the country has every right to address the students and children of the nation, making them listen to it compulsorily seems unwarranted.

For instance, when the PM makes his speech to the nation on the 15th of August or on the 26th of January every year, it is not compulsory for anyone to listen to it, and everyone is at his or her liberty to either listen to it or not. Then why Teachers’ day speech of the PM is being made compulsory for school children across the country?

Hopefully, the controversies around Teachers’ Day will not affect the auspiciousness of the day, which is being celebrated every year on the 5th of September in the memory of a great educationist and scholar, President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, and the sanctity and usefulness of Teacher’s Day will not be marred in pointless political controversies.

It would be better if Teachers’ Day remains a day of Teacher-Student bonding of love and respect as it has always been.

He applauded them for their extraordinary contributions and performance and motivated them to keep doing such great work for their students.

He said that the Teachers must work towards making a good bond with their students so that they learn from them and always do their best in their fields. Concluding Words on Teachers

The teachers are the most important factors in one’s life. Our parents have given us life, but the credit for making it meaningful goes to the teachers that we ever had. Paying them tribute only on Teacher’s Day is not enough. Their best award is applying their teachings to our lives and becoming successful.
