    According to statistics made public by the Indian Ministry of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia was ranked first amongst regional universities across the country in 2020. The institute was given an “A++” rating by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in December 2021.

    History of Jamia Millia Islamia

    On October 29, 1920, Jamia Millia Islamia was founded in Aligarh. It was primarily founded in reaction to the request of certain Aligarh Muslim University students for the establishment of a brand-new National Muslim University independent of government control because they believed that the governance of the university took a pro-British attitude.

    It was intended to be a national institution that would teach pupils from all ethnicities, including Muslims, with a focus on Indian nationalism. Mahatma Gandhi endorsed the founding of Jamia because he believed that the institution could influence the lives of a significant number of learners by fostering a collective identity and philosophy.

    Jamia Millia Islamia relocated to Karol Bagh in New Delhi in 1925 from Aligarh. Okhla, a peaceful settlement in the southern suburbs of Delhi, had a school building dedicated to it on March 1, 1935. All of Jamia Millia Islamia’s organizations relocated to the new location in 1936, except Jamia Press, the Maktaba, and the library.

    Just after Parliament approved Citizenship Amendment Act, the institution became the focal point of rallies in 2019. On December 13, 2019, Delhi Police attempted to remove the protesting students from campus forcibly and used tear gas to disperse them. To apprehend the mob that had shattered the tranquilly outside the college campus on December 15, 2019, police invaded the school. Police violence resulted in numerous undergraduate casualties, which led to demonstrations at numerous other campuses.

    The Universities Chancellors

    1. Hakim Ajmal Khan served as the institution’s first chancellor from 1920 to 1927.
    2. Muhammad Ali Jauhar was its first vice-chancellor from 1920 to 1923.
    3. Najma Heptulla assumed leadership of the institution as its 11th chancellor on May 26, 2017.
    4. Najma Akhtar was appointed as its 15th vice-chancellor in April 2019.

    The Notable Campus

    The facility is spread over a considerable region in Delhi’s Okhla neighbourhood. Its buildings are being renovated in large numbers. Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi Sports Centre, a beautiful cricket field at the institution, has hosted numerous to numerous significant competitive matches and Indian women’s cricket competitions. In 2013, the University Cricket Championship was also played on this field.

    Dr Zakir Husain Library is the name of the university’s major central library. It has a collection of around 400,000 items, including publications, antiquities, microfilms, journals, and special collections. They have specific rooms set aside for them.     Outlook India placed the Faculty of Law sixth amongst state and federal law universities in the country in 2022.
