The UK’s digital sector is now worth over £130 billion a year and employs over 1.5 million people. It is one of the fastest growing sectors in the economy, and is forecast to grow by a further 10% over the next five years.
The strategy is based on three core pillars:
1. Ensuring that the UK has the best environment for digital businesses to start and grow. This includes improving access to finance, skills and infrastructure.
2. Making it easier for digital businesses to access the finance they need to grow. This includes developing a new ‘digital growth fund’ and improving access to equity finance.
3. Ensuring that the UK has the best skills and talent for the digital sector. This includes developing a new ‘digital skills strategy’ and increasing the number of people with digital skills.

TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays are close to signing free-agent catcher Dioner Navarro, a major league source told The Associated Press on Saturday.
The deal is pending a physical, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the contract had not yet been finalized.
Navarro, who turns 30 next month, hit .300 with 13 homers and 34 RBIs in 89 games for the Tampa Bay Rays last season. He is a career .273 hitter with 69 homers and 259 RBIs in 748 games over nine seasons with the Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds.
He would likely become the Blue Jays’ starting catcher, replacing J.P. Arencibia, who became a free agent after last season.
The signing of Navarro would leave the Blue Jays with three catchers on their 40-man roster — Navarro, Erik Kratz and Josh Thole.

TORONTO – Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar has been suspended for two games for using a homophobic slur.
Pillar was angry at Atlanta Braves pitcher Jason Motte for allegedly quick-pitching him in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s game. Pillar was issued a warning by home plate umpire Brian Gorman.
But after striking out in the following at-bat, Pillar used an expletive directed at Motte and called him a “fag.”
Pillar issued an apology Thursday, saying he was “ashamed and embarrassed” by his actions.
“I regret saying it and I’m sorry for the language I used,” Pillar said. “I’m passionate about the game and I’m sorry for letting my emotions get the best of me.”
Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said he spoke to Pillar about the incident and accepted his apology.
“We expect our players to conduct themselves with class and dignity at all times,” Atkins said. “We apologize to all those who have been offended by this incident.”
Pillar will not appeal the suspension.
