    Non – Recurring Numbers

    A non-recurring number is a number that is not repeated in a certain sequence. In other words, it is a one-time occurrence. For example, the number 5 is a non-recurring number in the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

    Terminating and Recurring Decimals

    Terminating decimals are those that have a finite number of digits that repeat after a certain point. For example, the decimal 0.333333…has three digits that repeat (3’s), so it is a terminating decimal. Recurring decimals, on the other hand, have a digit or sequence of digits that repeat without ever reaching a stopping point. The decimal 0.142857…, for example, has a sequence of 8’s that repeat.

    Types of Decimal Numbers

    There are three types of decimal numbers: terminating decimal, repeating decimal, and non-terminating decimal.

    Terminating decimal numbers are those that have a finite number of digits that repeat after a decimal point. For example, 0.75 has three digits that repeat (7, 5, and 0), so it is a terminating decimal number.

    Repeating decimal numbers are those that have a finite number of digits that repeat in a pattern. For example, 0.66666 has six digits that repeat (6, 6, 6, …), so it is a repeating decimal number.

    Non-terminating decimal numbers are those that do not have a finite number of digits that repeat. For example, pi (3.14159…) is a non-terminating decimal number because the digits after the decimal point go on forever.

    Converting Recurring Decimals to Fractions

    To convert a recurring decimal to a fraction, divide the number of recurring digits by the number of total digits in the decimal.

    CTV Atlantic has learned the Halifax Regional Police officer who was shot in the line of duty is out of surgery and is now in stable condition.

    The officer was shot just after 6 p.m. Thursday while responding to a report of a man with a gun in the area of Gottingen and Agricola streets.

    The officer was transported to hospital with what police describe as “serious injuries.”

    Just after midnight, Halifax Regional Police tweeted that the officer was out of surgery and is now in stable condition.
